What to Expect From Cosmetic Dental Implants

During an initial consultation for dental implants, you will meet with Dr Nick Sherwin to discuss your dental needs and the results you wish to achieve. Nick will then carry out a full clinical assessment using intra-oral scanners and 3D imaging of the jaw bone to accurately assess and tailor the best treatment options to achieve your smile goals.

Following the consultation, you will receive a full treatment plan explaining any alternative options along with details of the stages and the total cost of the proposed treatment.

Your surgery will then be carried out here at our dental practice, where you will receive our complete care and support to make the process as pleasant as possible. Implants are usually restored with teeth three months after the surgery has been completed.

Dental Implant Types

Neodent

Neodent implants are part of the Straumann group and have been for the past 30 years, becoming a leading dental implant system with over 3 million implants sold worldwide. Their knowledge and experience have produced an extremely high-quality implant with excellent long-term survival rates.

Bicon

The Bicon short implant is another long-established implant system with 38 years of clinical use. The short nature of these implants allows for safe use around vital structures and minimises the need for bone grafting procedures that would otherwise add an additional cost and complication to the treatment. They can often be placed in areas where there is insufficient bone to place other implant systems.

Zirconia Dental Implants

Dental implants have been made from medical-grade titanium for the last 60 years with no known allergies. However, with an increase in patients suffering from metal sensitivities, there is becoming a demand for a metal-free alternative. We are now able to offer a metal-free alternative in Zirconia implants.

Zirconia implants have been used in Europe for over a decade and can provide excellent biocompatibility. Zirconia is an extremely stable material, meaning that it does not trigger an allergic or inflammatory response in the body. Although not suitable for everyone, zirconia dental implants may be a better choice for particular clinical situations.

The advantages of choosing zirconia dental implants:

  • Zirconia is the only viable option for a patient wishing to have metal-free dental implants. This material is inert and can be a good choice for people with known metal allergies or sensitivities.
  • Zirconia implants may be more aesthetically pleasing, eliminating the risk of dark lines around the gingival margin.
  • A metal-free zirconia implant could be healthier for the soft tissue because this material retains less plaque and calculus than titanium, especially when a one-piece zirconia implant is selected.
  • Zirconia has good flexural strength and is known to be superior to other ceramics in resistance to fracture. Its white colour, low modulus of elasticity, and low thermal conductivity have made this material a desirable choice for implant dentistry.
  • Clinical studies have shown zirconia to be as good as titanium in terms of Osseointegration. This is due to the high level of contact between the implant and the jaw bone, allowing the bone to fuse firmly with the implant, resulting in Osseointegration.

Ultra-Short implants

The Bicon short implant is a long-established implant system. The short nature of these implants allows for safe use around vital structures and minimises the need for bone grafting procedures that would otherwise add an additional cost and complication to the treatment. They can often be placed in areas where there is insufficient bone to place other implant systems.

PRF Platelet-Rich Fibrin

Implants need bone to be placed in. Unfortunately, this bone can be lost when a tooth is removed or if the tooth has been missing for some time. If there is insufficient bone, we often have to replace this bone with either processed animal bone or a manmade artificial form of bone.

Dr Sherwin can offer PRF, where a small amount of your blood is taken and processed in a centrifuge to produce a platelet-rich fibrin clot. When PRF is placed in a socket after tooth removal, it can reduce the amount of bone loss. Alternatively, when mixed with artificial bone, it can improve the uptake of any bone grafting procedure.

All on 4 Dental Implants

All on 4 dental implants are the perfect solution for those suffering from loose dentures or broken or missing teeth. The “All on 4” concept involves placing four or more implants into the bone of the jaw, providing a strong and stable foundation for a full-arch fixed set of teeth. Known as a bridge.

The aim of the treatment is to transform your mouth with a brand-new smile that looks, feels, and functions like natural teeth.

What does this treatment involve?

  1. Initial consultation: Your dentist will assess your oral health and determine if you are a suitable candidate for All on 4 dental implants.
  2. Treatment planning: Using advanced imaging technology, your dentist will create a customised treatment plan to ensure optimal implant placement.
  3. Surgery: Under local anaesthesia, your dentist will remove any teeth and place the implants into your jawbone.
  4. Temporary bridge: In many cases, a temporary fixed bridge is placed on the same day as the implant surgery.
  5. Healing period: You’ll need to wait for the implants to integrate with your jawbone, which usually takes around 3-6 months.
  6. Final Bridge: Once the healing is complete, your dentist will replace the temporary bridge with a permanent, custom-made bridge.
