For some reason, teeth are always the subject of many strange questions that nobody seems to know the answer to. Here at Acorn Dental Health, we’re here to separate the truth from the urban legend with a bunch of strange dental questions.
So read on to have your dental questions answered!
The classic situation in a CSI-style show involves finding dental remains and taking them to be identified. But is this accurate? Forensic dentistry is how dentistry is used to help solve crimes. It can help to identify unknown victims or perpetrators based on remains left behind. A forensic dentist can extract DNA from the pulp chamber to help identify a person or use existing dental records to match them to a corpse. They can even be used to match a bite mark to a specific person!
One common conspiracy theory on the internet is that a pig will be able to make a body completely disappear by eating it all. And we don’t recommend testing this theory out when we can just tell you the truth about it right here. There have been plenty of cases in recent years of pigs consuming humans, mostly in accidental situations where the person collapses in a pen. But will they eat all of them?
The quick answer is no, they will not. The pigs will eat a lot of a person, but not quite all. Pigs will eat whatever they come across, but will not eat things such as human hair and teeth. They’ll break down large bones into manageable chunks, but these other things are not digestible and will be left behind.
The urban legend goes that leaving a tooth in a glass of Coca-Cola overnight will completely dissolve it. This is in fact false. The pH level of Coca-Cola is not enough to completely dissolve a tooth, so while it can erode teeth slowly over time, it will not get rid of it completely. So if you’re worried about drinking too much Coca-Cola, don’t worry! As long as you drink it in moderation your teeth won’t fall out.
