The 10 Best Practices for Healthy Teeth

Acorn Dental Health • 9 June 2022

Designed to improve the overall aesthetic of your smile, cosmetic dentistry services are a wide range of treatments that all offer cosmetic improvements to your smile, enhancing comfort and confidence in the process. Cosmetic dentistry will typically include the following treatments:

Implants

A long term solution for missing teeth, dental implants are ideal for teeth that have been lost due to decay, disease or injury. Tooth loss can lead to other serious oral health issues, such as the weakening of your jaw bone in both strength and density, so replacing missing teeth is important to your continued oral health. A dental implant will allow your jaw bone to grow around the artificial tooth instead before a crown is anchored to the implant to perform the function of the missing tooth. This will reduce the risk of further dental decay, protect your jaw and improve oral hygiene.

Crowns

A tooth-shaped cap designed to protect and cover a tooth that has faced decay or damage, a dental crown is designed to restore the space, size and aesthetic of your original tooth, and in many instances, improve it. Cemented in place, the original tooth is entirely encased within the crown, making it an ideal option for broken or worn down teeth.

Veneers

Similar to crowns, only attached to the front of the tooth instead of acting as a cap, dental veneers are made from porcelain or resin composite materials and are permanently bonded to your teeth. Veneers can be fitted for individual teeth to address cosmetic concerns such as chips, breaks or discolouration, but are generally fitted in rows of between six to eight veneers to create an even, symmetrical smile.

Composite Bonding

An efficient and effective method of addressing minor cosmetic issues, composite bonding is designed to both whiten and improve the shape and length of a patient’s tooth/teeth. Less invasive a procedure than crowns or veneers, composite bonding will only involve minor alterations to your teeth to help the resin bond, unlike crowns or veneers which require parts of the original tooth to be permanently removed.

Teeth Whitening

An extremely popular form of cosmetic dental work, teeth whitening will involve the bleaching of your teeth to restore their shine, helping you maintain a healthy smile. Tooth discolouration is common over time, with the impact of age, food, drinks and smoking all capable of yellowing up your smile, which is why our professional teeth whitening treatments are fast and effective at removing stains safely.
